As we delve into the lives of those buried in the Mt. Zion/Female Union Band Society Cemeteries in our Headstones and History: Black Lives Matter(ed) course, we discover amazing stories and remarkable lives. One such family that we researched is the Beason Family. This work is important; otherwise, history would only look at this man as a kind of glamorous spy, rather than a man who was forced to emancipate 4-year-old Mary Beason, her mother Hannah, and her grandmother Lucy Bowles.
